9 tips for diabetics
Diabetics need to watch out for a number of things. We’ve put together a few tips to help you stay on track.
- Lose excess weight or prevent excess weight gain
- Make exercise and sports a part of your daily routine
- Check your blood sugar levels regularly
- Eat fresh fruit and vegetables (5 servings per day)
- Keep in mind the fundamentals of low-glycaemic nutrition
- Eat carbohydrates regularly throughout the day; make sure to include high-fibre foods, such as whole-grain products or legumes, in your daily diet
- Give preference to low-fat foods
- Use high-grade vegetable oils such as rapeseed oil or olive oil
- Drink at least 1.5 to 2 litres of liquids per day; mineral water and unsweetened teas are ideal.
